What's Special About the Tautline Hitch

The Tautline Hitch slides when you need to adjust it and hold tight when you don't.

It's perfect for adjusting tension of the rope without untying the knot. This makes it perfect for tents, tarps, and shelter.

It does not appear in the Ashley Book of Knots by the same name. It's based on the Rolling Hitch version 1.

Boy Scouts actually made it popular, even if early manual confused it with the Midshipman's Hitch. But the one we call the Tautline Hitch today is now the standard in scouting.

The Downside? It's not meant for critical loads or slippery ropes, but for camping and outdoor activities it's hard to beat.
