How to Tie the Sailor’s Coil Knot

To tie the Sailor Coil, start by making the coils of roughly equal diameter. After the rope is coiled, tie a single hitch around the section of the coil, and a second hitch is tied on the opposite side. Finally, tighten the knot to lock the coil in place.

  1. Make a coil with your rope by looping the rope into circles of equal size.
  2. Create a single hitch around the section of the coil.
  3. Create another section on the left of the first.
  4. Pull to tighten the knot.
