The EStar stopper knot is a bulky stopper knot designed specifically to hold in slippery ropes, like Dyneema where other knots might slip out.

This knot is asymmetrical in appearance and is based on the Buntline hitch.

This knot is useful when a secure and bulky stopper is needed to prevent the rope from slipping through a ring or hole.

Here’s how you can tie EStar stopper knot:

  1. Begin by making an Overhand loop and pass the working end under the standing part.
  2. Bring it up to create a second loop adjacent to the first.
  3. Make a Buntline hitch around the standing part.
  4. Open the Buntline hitch and bring the working end down to form two loops.
  5. Pull the ropes as indicated to tighten the knots.
  6. Fold the two loops over, pass the working end through them.
  7. Tighten the loops to complete the EStar stopper knot.
