Perfection Loop

The Perfection Loop is a fixed loop knot used to attach a lure or fly to the leader or at the butt end of your leader for quick connection.

It’s simple. It’s fast.

And it makes a tight, clean loop at the end of the leader that aligns perfectly straight to the standing end.

This allows the fly to move freely in the water and offers a more natural action.

Let’s learn it in detail.

Perfection Loop Knot Details

Type: Fishing Knot

Other Names: Angler’s Loop

ABoK Reference: #1017

How to Tie the Perfection Loop Knot

  1. Make a loop at the end of the line. The tag end should go behind the standing line.
  2. Bring the tag end back in front of the loop you just made.
  3. Take the tag end around the back of the knot.
  4. Pass the tag end between the two loops.
  5. Pass the bottom loop through the top loop.
  6. Tighten the knot.
  7. Trim the tag end.

Quick Tip: Before you tighten it, wet the knot. A little saliva or water lubricates the knot, which helps tighten the knot more easily.

How Most Anglers Tie the Perfection Loop Knot (By Hand)

Honestly, most of the anglers tie this in the hand. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Hold the first loop between your index finger and thumb.
  2. Wrap the second turn around the finger and the thumb.
  3. Pass the tag end between the loops.
  4. Pass the second loop through the first.
  5. Tighten the knot.

If you are attaching the lure or fly to the leader line, here’s what you do:

  • After step 1, pass the tag end through the hook or ring of the fly.
  • Then, continue with the same steps as above.
  • At Step 5, pass the lower loop along with the fly through the upper loop before tightening.

Application and Uses

  • Add loop at the end of the leader butt.
  • Make loop to loop connection between the leader and the fly line.
  • Attach hook, lure or fly to the leader.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Strong and reliable
  • Easy to change leaders when used with a loop to loop connection
  • Can be tied on heavy mono or fluorocarbon lines

Cons

  • Can jam and difficult to untie, not suitable for rope

Other Similar Knots

Double Surgeon’s Loop

The Double Surgeon’s Loop is another method to join two fishing lines for a loop to loop connection.

It’s easier to tie than the Perfection Loop, but it’s bulkier and not in-line.

Bimini Twist

The Bimini Twist is considered to retain 100% of the line strength in optimal conditions.

It creates a double line with a loop at the end to which leader can be attached for a loop to loop connection.

But it takes longer to tie.

Non-Slip Mono Knot (Kreh Loop)

The Non-slip Mono Knot creates a fixed loop at the end of the fishing line when a non slip loop is needed to connect lure or fly.

It’s strong and does not grip the lure tightly, which allows for a more lifelike action.

Some people find it difficult to master this knot, though.
